Observations and information about local traditional life, morals and customs, e.g. local traditional and ceremonial clothing by both sexes, warfare, weapons, shields, ancestor sculptures and worshiphunters, warriors, headhunting, transport, rivers, environment.Author was appointed Director of the Sarawak Museum, Kuching in 1924. The author, a danish subject, orignally a civil servant at East Coast Sumatra, was appointed director of the Sarawak Museum, Kuching, in 1922. He took the opportunity to travel extensively into hitherto rather un-ex;lored parts of mountainous Sarawak. Although this work is not a scientific report, it still supplies interesting information on the socio-anthropology of the Sarawak ;population, ethnographical objecs, local arts & crafs, arms and armour, head-hunting. It also includes a chapter on the 'chronique scandaleuse' of Kuching under Rajah Charles Brooke. A good copy. (binding plastified, white name-sticker in upper left corner inside front boards).
