Buch. Etat : Neu. 286 pp. Deutsch.

Hardcover. Etat : Very good. Etat de la jaquette : Very good. Second Edition [stated]. 246, [6] pages. Illustrations. Charts. Footnotes. DJ is in a plastic sleeve. Preface to the Second Edition. Notes. Postscript by Author. Appendixes. For the second edition of this book, a few changes have been made. As the TM movement grew and expanded, the expressions used to illustrate certain points changed: we have changed these expressions accordingly. The title has been changed to better identify who it is about and when. Appendices have been added that validate Maharishi's predictions about the TM technique which he made in 1959. In order t preserve the charm of the original story, all footnotes reference are now in the back. Transcendental Meditation (TM) is a form of silent mantra meditation developed by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi so named to separate it from Hinduism or any other religious practice. The TM technique involves the use of a silently-used sound called mantra, and is practiced for 15-20 minutes twice per day. It is taught by certified teachers through a standard course of instruction, which costs a fee that varies by country. According to the Transcendental Meditation movement, it is a non-religious method that promotes relaxed awareness, stress relief, self-development, and higher states of consciousness. TM became more popular in the 1960s and 1970s, as the Maharishi shifted to a more technical presentation, and his meditation technique was practiced by celebrities, most prominently members of the Beatles and the Beach Boys. The worldwide TM organization had grown to include educational programs, health products, and related services. From a review found on-line: This classic is a fascinating peek into the very early days of the TM Movement in the US. Olson's family hosted the Maharishi in their house in the early 1960's and it soon became a whirlwind of visitors, lectures and TM initiations. What is especially good here is the informality and attention to the everyday details by this housewife-and-mother. She write of Maharishi's hands, of his visit to Disneyland, of the frigid air coming into the house from his open bedroom window -- it was only a few years since he'd left the Himalayas -- of the rose used to lightly pong the family's housecat, who regally plopped at Maharishi's feet during his talks. The book was published in the mid -'60s under the title "Hermit In The House." This re-titled edition from '79 came with an especially good introduction by Helena Olson's then-teenage daughter Teresa - here we learn that Olson actually had a strong photographic memory. And Teresa recalls nights she had to sleep over at the neighbor's house wistfully looking back to her lively noisy home, her own bedroom given over to Maharishi. This is a perfect book for anyone with a fondness for the early history of Maharishi or Transcendental Meditation.
