Publishers' green cloth with gilt title and ruling in gilt to upper board, gun and bullet vignette in black, the cloth clean and bright. Tipped in before the dedication page a printed note on Ommundsen and his death in action in Flanders in 1915. An account of the history, design, manufacture and use of military and sporting weapons, and their ammunition from the earliest time to date with an emphasis on military rifles with excellent illustrations. Riling 1799.

1st Edn, XVI 335 pages, 63 plates and many other illus, foxing to end papers and occasional foxing through the book, attractive pictorial covers showing a standing rifleman to upper cover within ornate borders including gilt target and bullet vignette, decorative spine with 2 rifles within similar borders. The publishers of the 1st edition were Cassell and the cover design differed. the 2nd edition had added material and a note on Ommundsen who died in 1915.
