First Edition. Lothrop, 1893. Fair+/No dj. Approx. 8-1/2" x 10-1/2", large typeface, w/ numerous full-page pen & ink illustrations. Red boards w/ color illustration on front, is rubbed & soiled, and has significant edge wear. Cloth covered spine is faded and has small head and tale cuts. Front hinge is open, back hinge is cracked. Color frontispiece is loose & has a 1905 incription (not from the author) on its back. Light foxing on a few early pages. Other pages are unmarked.

P.o. name and gift inscription on FFEP. A collection of stories about the lives of children and their families. Illustrated boards are rubbed on edges and corners, with some soilage, but the front is a very pretty full-color drawing (by H. Bencke) of a well-dressed little girl with a basket of flowers out for a walk. Blue cloth spine is quite worn and faded.

Covers show some rubbing, scratches, staining, soiling; and wear on cover edges, corners, and spine ends. slight bumping on corners. Inner spine crease weakened and partially split but pages intact. Decorative Cloth. Etat : Good. Etat de la jaquette : No DJ. The decorative cloth cover has a colored picture of a young girl and boy on th grass by a lake with the title "Pansies for Thoughts". Along the bottom of the cover, from front to back is a colored panel of pansies. Back cover has a circular picture of a young girl, plus a scattering of yellow winged butterflies. The cover is intact but faded and has dusty soiling, the corners, edges and spine are worn. The front flyleaf has a gift inscription (December 25, 1887) and a penciled price. The book pages are unnumberd but must total over 300. The book does not provide a contents page but is an eclectric collection of stories, rhymes, history, biography etc. from"The Family in the Pine Tree to St. George and the Dragon to Winter in Manitoba. Illustrations, many full page from the frontspiece "The Little Pipers" to Patio of a Privae House, Cordova Spain to Napoleon Bonaparte, to Alfred Tennyson to Our Pet (a cute dog). Pansy, the famous author and Editor wrote a book titled "Pansies for Thoughts" - a collection of religous thoughts (not included in this book) for each month of the year- hence her selection ot the book cover illustration. Rare Collectible Children.
