Hardcover. Original violet cloth with stamped gilt pictorial spine (young woman surrounded by foliage) , approximately 4 x 6 1/8th inches, 171 pp, illustrated with in-text black and white drawings. Hardcover, very good, no dustjacket. Spine tanned, with a few 1/6th inch nicks at head and foot, corners bumped with a bit of cardboard exposed there, approximately 1 1/2 inch deep fading along lower edge of front board, with some minor fading along other edges. Internally, 2 inch black felt pen line on paste-down front endpaper, bit of foxing on endpapers, otherwise tight, clean, paper crisp, unmarked; probably never really read. Travels and adventures in New York State and the Mississippi valley in the early 19th century, including stays in Salem and Utica, NY, a boat ride down the Hudson River, meeting Robert Fulton of steamboat fame, hunting, war with the Indians, etc. Literature; Victorian.

Paperback. Etat : Fair. Unamed (illustrateur). First edition. A book for children describing the author's travels around Britain and Ireland. First edition. With a map and numerous vignette illustrations throughout. Written by Samuel Griswold Goodrich, who wrote under the pseudonym Peter Parley. Born in Connecticut, U.S.A, Goodrich was largely self-educated, who began as a bookseller and publisher in 1816. The volume itself is slightly worn, yet remains a good reading copy. In original pictorial paper covered binding. Externally, somewhat rubbed and worn with backstrip missing and both joints strained. Faint previous owner's inscription to recto of front free endpaper. Internally, binding slightly strained in places. Foxing to first and last couple of pages but otherwise generally bright and clean. Fair. book.
