The binding is strong. Lovely marbled endpapers. Corners are bumped, edges rubbed. A bit of scuffing to the leather. Covers rubbed. Hines are worn, toning and some cracks to the spine. Overall the covers are clean and strong and the pages inside, though foxed and toned, are clean and unmarked. In very good condition.

Marbled endpapers, scattered spotting. A handsomely bound copy of an early edition of vicar apostolic of the western district and mathematician Charles Walmesleyâ s (1722-1797) principal theological work, a commentary on the book of Revelation which anchored his cheerless prophecies regarding the future on a foundation of Newtonian theory and notably prophesied the end of Protestantism, and particularly the destruction of all Anglican churches, by 1825. First published in 1771, the book went through ten editions in Britain and five more in America. It uses as its source the â commonly known English translation made from the Latin Vulgateâ , that is, Richard Challonerâ s revision of the Rheims New Testament. ESTC T117383 Size: 8vo.
