Cloth-backed decorated boards, gilt-lettered spine. A very fine copy. A previously unpublished account of the visit to California in 1837, taken from Simpkinson's journal and illustrated from contemporary drawings. The text tells of visits to San Francisco Bay, up the Sacramento River, and to Monterey; the land, the missions, and the natives were closely observed and described. Original prospectus laid in.
