William Blackwood and Sons, Edinburgh and London, 1924, first edition; Volume 1 only of two, this covering the period from the raising of the regiment in 1685 through to the end of WWI; large 8vo, 200 x 257mm, pp xii, 337, xoloured frontispiece of Princess Charlette, ten other coloured plates and 14 half tone plates; green cloth, spine gilt, professional recased with the relevant elements of the original spie laid down and with the arms gilt onn the front cover; marbled end papers; clean and firm throughout, a very good copy. . . . . . The British army cavalry regiment was formed in 1686, in response to the Monmouth Rebellion the year before, as Shrewsbury's Regiment of Horse, taking the name of Princess Charlotte's Regiment in 1804. After the 1688 revolution briging the House of Orange to the British throne the regiment served in Ireland, taking part in the Battle of the Boyne and the First Siege of Limerick, duly becoming part of the Irish military establishment and remaining there until Ireland was brought into the UK in 1801. Earlier it had taken part in several battles in Ireland and elsewhere in Europe and later was n the Crimean War and the Battle of Balaclava and in the Second Boer War. It was part of the British Expeditionary Force in France inn 1914.
