Au verso du faux-titre, on trouve la mention Imprimerie de H. Balzac, rue des Marais, S.-G. n° 17.L'essentiel de ces mémoires porte sur la Guerre d'Indépendance des États-Unis. Personnage remuant, Moré se retrouve enfermé par sa famille à Saint-Lazare, puis par lettre de cachet, à Pierre-Encise, d'où il s'évade de manière rocambolesque en août 1776. C'est avec cet épisode que commence son récit. De là il part aux États-Unis où les circonstances l'amènent à se rapprocher de La Fayette dont il devient l'aide de camp. Lors d'un second voyage aux États-Unis, il participe aux côtés de Rochambeau à la bataille de Yorktown. C'est logiquement qu'il émigre au début de la Révolution et séjourne en Suisse et en Allemagne. Il retournera encore une fois aux États-Unis en 1799 pour être là aux côtés de Talleyrand.Le livre connut une diffusion très restreinte, publié seulement à une centaine d'exemplaires. L'introduction de la seconde édition de 1898 affirme qu' "aujourd'hui, un exemplaire des Mémoires du Comte de M. est à peu près introuvable dans le commerce".Les lettres qui suivent son récit sont du comte de Salaberry, son cousin.Fierro, 1190. Edition originale rare de ces mémoires rédigés par un émigré, qui concernent essentiellement la guerre d'indépendance des Etats-Unis d'Amérique où Moré s'était déjà exilé une première fois en 1776 et où il devint l'aide de camp de La Fayette. Plus tard, il seconda Rochambeau à la bataille de Yorktown. Après la Révolution, pendant laquelle il s'était réfugié en Suisse et en Allemagne, il revint une dernière fois aux Etats-Unis (1793) aux côtés de Talleyrand. Le frontispice représente le fort de Pierre Cise où l'auteur avait été enfermé en 1775 par lettre de cachet sur l(injonction de sa propre famille au motif de son caractère "violent et farouche". Les cinq lettres qui précèdent les mémoires proprement dits sont de son cousin le comte de Salaberry qui était alors membre du Conseil Général du Loir & Cher et résidait à Blois. Edition imprimée par Honoré de Balzac. Elle fut tirée à petit nombre et ne fut pas mise dans le commerce. Tulard ne cite que la seconde édition de 1898. Exemplaire à l'état de parution, non rogné ni grecqué, avec ses couvertures. Hanotaux & Vicaire, n°28.

Etat : 7. in-8, demi-veau havane, dos à nerfs orné de frises dorées, fleurons à froid et pièce de titre de basane fauve, tranches marbrées, 319 pp. Edition originale ornée d'une lithographie d'Engelmann en frontispice représentant le fort de Pierre Scize à Lyon, où le jeune comte de Moré-Chaulnes (1758-1837) fut enfermé par lettre de cachet en 1775. Son évasion pour suivre La Fayette dans sa première expédition américaine marqua le début d'une carrière dédiée aux Etats-Unis où il retourna en 1781 sous Rochambeau, puis en 1793 pour recevoir du Congrès américain l'arrérage de solde dû aux officiers qui avaient été à son service. Ces mémoires rares, inconnus de Sabin, ont été imprimés par Balzac (rue des Marais St-Germain, n° 17). Bel exemplaire dans une fine reliure de l'époque.
