  • 0. (Bruges), 25th February 1782, manuscript on paper, written in ink, in-folio, 8 pp ( last 3 pp blank) , written in French, very neat handwriting. ( One small hole in the centre of the letter). Guillaume Wets, general manager of the ''Maison de Commerce de Bruges '' disputes certain import duties he has to pay. Provenance; from the archives of Charles de Proli ; added is a photostat of a typed letter from 23 May 1945 which refers to Theophile Smekens who was still occupied with Proli's bancruptcy in the late 19th c. ( see Denucé, Antwerps Archievenblad 2e reeks, 7 , 1932 nr.1). On this history of Proli's business initiatives see at length '' Charles Proli , Antwerps zakenman en bankier 1723 - 1786.'' Study by H. Houtman-De Smedt - published by the Brussels' Academy in 1983. On page 91-93 is related how Ostend became a tax-free port from which the Maison de Commerce de Bruges greatly benefitted. We have other archive records relating to Charles Proli and the ''Société Impériale de Trieste pour le commerce Aziatique'' on offer. If you would be interested in acquiring several documents a more advantageous price will be applied. Please inquire via e-mail.

  • 2. (Bruges - Antwerp ),no date, (1777), 2 manuscript on paper, written in ink, in-folio, written in French, very neat handwriting. [1] Plan d'érection. 8 pp (of which 3 blank), with a fold in the middle. unsigned, with a manuscript correction in pencil. This correction, pertaining to the capital of the company - 500.000 is changed into 400.000- allows us to consider this draft as being the earlier one. [2] Plan d'érection. 4 pp (of which 1 blank), with a fold in the middle and traces of a red lacquer seal (probably send as a letter ?)
