In-8° broché 52 pages, une petite mouillure sur la marge supérieure des deux planches Le Lorestan (Louristan, Laristan, ou Lurestan ou Loristan ; en luri : Luristan ; en persan : ???????) est l'une des 31 provinces de l'Iran et un territoire historique. Elle est située dans l'ouest de l'Iran au milieu des monts Zagros et au sud-ouest de la ville d'Ispahan. La capitale de la province est Khorramabad. Le célèbre Château Falak-ol-Aflak est situé dans cette ville. Cette région a donné son nom à une civilisation qui s'est développée au viiie siècle av. J.-C., parfois assimilée à celle des Mèdes. Le Lorestan couvre une superficie de 28 392 km . Les villes principales de la province sont : Khorramabad, Boroudjerd, Aligoudarz, Doroud, Koudacht, Azna, Delfan, Selseleh, et Pol-e Dokhtar. Le nom Lorestan signifie Terre des Lors, et dans un sens plus large représente une large partie de l'Iran occidental à la frontière de l'Irak, s'étendant sur 600 km le long d'un axe nord-ouest / sud-est de Kermanshah au Fars, avec une largeur de 150 à 200 km. Le terrain est en majorité montagneux, avec de nombreuses chaînes, faisant toutes partie des Zagros. Imamzadeh Jafar, construit à l'époque des Houlagides, à Borujerd, a une architecture particulière qui est rarement vue dans d'autres provinces de l'Iran. Le Lorestan est une des plus vieilles régions d'Iran. Au IIIe et IVe millénaire av. J.-C., des tribus émigrantes se fixèrent dans la région montagneuse des Zagros. Les Kassites, dont la langue paraît n'être ni indo-européenne ni sémitique, étaient originaires du Lorestan. Certains chercheurs pensent que les Lors sont une branche des populations iraniennes ayant migré dans cette région depuis l'est de la Mer Caspienne, au début du Ier millénaire av. J.-C. Les habitants actuels du Lorestan se sont mélangés avec les Bakhtiaris et les Kurdes. Les langues des habitants de la province sont appelées lori et laki. Les Laks se sont installés à Koudacht et à Alishtar, alors que les Lors sont particulièrement centrés autour de Khorramabad. Leurs dialectes possèdent une grammaire et un vocabulaire bien distincts. Cette région est caractérisée par une grande maîtrise de la fonte à la cire perdue à l'âge du bronze puis à celui du fer (du IIIe au Ier millénaire av. J.-C.). Le musée Cernuschi a exposé1 d'avril à juin 2008, cent cinquante bronzes ornés de griffons et de fauves notamment.
