Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Mild crushing to spine ends. Book has a slight forward lean. Sunning to spine.

Decorative Cloth. Etat : Very Good-. No Jacket. Mrs. Willingham Rawnsley (illustrateur). No Stated Edition. Victorian depiction of the English countryside - "Drawn and Described by Mrs. Willingham Rawnsley" - 166 pp. with 16 full color reproductions of the lady's art. Green boards with gilt leaf motif and print. Boards have slight spotting with a little darkening, as is the spine. Corners and spine ends have light bumping. Pages are age-yellowed and edges have foxing/spotting. End papers are fairly heavily foxed, and pages have occasional foxing, spotting and damp stains - none of which affect text or the lovely illustrations. Opens to gutter in places. A lovely reminder of a simpler and more genteel time.

The first edition of this work with pictorial gilt to the front board and spine. Illustrated with twenty colour plates reproduced from paintings by the author. Collated, complete. A lovely descriptive guide to the flora and fauna of the New Forest in Southern England by Alice Julia Rawnsley (or Mrs. Willingham Rawnsley), with colour reproductions of the author's paintings. This work describes the New Forest month by month, with the author's personal anecdotes. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally generally smart, with a couple of marks to the front board and fading to the spine. Shelf wear to the extremities and to the head and tail of the spine. Gilt remains bright to the front board. Slightly strained to the head of the front hinge. Internally, firmly bound. Marginal age toning to pages with the odd spot, more so to the first and last few pages. Very Good. book.

A handsome first edition copy of this charming collection of sketches on the English countryside by Alice Julia Rawnsley; copiously illustrated throughout. This copy is lacking the original dustwrapper, as usual. With publisher's advertisements to the rear of the work, and author's advertisement facing the half title page. Collated complete with sixteen beautiful coloured plates, each with a protective tissue guard. In the publisher's original cloth binding with gilst stamped design to the front board and spine. Externally excellent, with slight bumping to extremities and head and tail of spine. Slight fading to spine, as expected with this colour binding. Small marks to upper extremity of rear board. Slight offsetting and scattered spotting to endpapers. Internally firmly bound. Pages slightly age toned to extremities but very bright and clean throughout. Very Good Indeed. book.
