Paperback. 8vo. Stiff pictorial wrappers. 49pp. Line drawing. Near fine. Bit of age toning about edges of outer wrapper (only). Tight, handsome first edition of this slim verse collection, "Vagrom Chap Book No. 12." Attractively inscribed and signed by the poet in black ballpoint on the title page: "to Frank Lehner / my cherished friend, / fellow-flutist, / favorite editor -- / Ray Roseliep / Easter-tide (at our Ship!) / 1976." On an introductory page (p. 8), Roseliep also corrects a misspelling. Roseliep (1917-83) was an Iowa Catholic priest best known as a prolific poet and a master of the English haiku, which earned him the nickname "the John Dunne of Western haiku." Francis C. Lehner (1921-2001) was an English professor at Roseliep's alma, Loras College of Dubuque, Iowa, and seemingly a mentor. Outstanding Henry David Thoreau inspired haiku collection by this maestro of that form.
