Edition originale
Octavo, pp. [1-8] [1] 2-399 [400: blank], original gray green pebbled cloth, front panel lettered in white and ruled in blind, spine panel lettered in white. First edition. The second Craig Kennedy book. The Dodd, Mead edition is often confused with the undated later Harper & Row edition which has the International Magazine Company 1911, 1912 copyright dates (the dates of prior magazine appearances of the stories) on its copyright page (as well as a frontispiece by Will Foster not found in the Dodd, Mead edition). Bleiler (1948), p. 232 (giving incorrect publisher and publication date). Reginald 12101. Not in Bleiler (1978). Hubin (1994), p. 672. Smith, American Fiction, 1901-1925 R-141 (citing same incorrect data as Bleiler). Old owner's signature on front paste-down. Cloth lightly rubbed at spine ends and corner tips, a bit of soiling to fore edge of text block and rear endpapers, a very good copy. This "true" first edition is somewhat uncommon, unlike the Harper reprints which are very common. (#130112).
