Hardcover. Etat : Good+. No Jacket. First Edition. 465pp. HARDCOVER. Privately-owned copy. Described as Good + due to a few caveats: Bright gilt titling to spine & gilt dust guard to top edge. Green cloth bright & clean other than 3 tiny marks. 2" vertical split to base of spine which has been repaired. Binding remains secure with occasional slt. hinge exposure. Appears little used. Light browning apparent to endpapers at each end. Internally bright & clean without foxing. The book is complete, and all plates & map are present. Overall, a very tidy privately owned copy. First Edition, 8vo. xix + 465 pp., with a photo frontis and 8 hand-coloured lithographic plates and a coloured folding map. Original cloth, gilt. Top edge gilt. Some foxing on the half title and the corresponding leaf at the rear of the book, which leads me to think that this sheet of paper is inferior to that used for the text and plates, as the book is otherwise clean and tidy. A very good copy. The fine plates for this nicely produced book are by the famous bird artist J. Smit and are the last of their kind; a twentieth century survivor of the nineteenth century hand-finished bird book. Scarce work of county avifauna of which only 300 copies were printed.
