The text block is loose from the boards, especially the last two pages 58 and 59, where webbing visible. The actual pages are in near fine condition, very clean and with bright illustrations and not annotated.With black and white and colour illustrations,diagrams and plates There is an A4 sheet from the author addressed to the reader inside. Without jacket. Inside tan box which has small tears on the joints and is tanned and a little marked.

März 1692 in Leiden; 19. September 1761 ebenda) war ein niederländischer Mediziner und Naturwissenschaftler. . Pieter van Musschenbroek beschäftigte sich unter Betonung der Empirie vor allem mit Problemen der Elektrizität und Kapillarität. Zugleich spielte er eine wichtige Rolle bei der Verbreitung der Newtonschen Ansichten in der Physik. Bekannt sind auch seine meteorologischen Messungen zwischen 1725 und 1740. Er erfand eine Reihe naturwissenschaftlicher Instrumente darunter ein Tribometer zur Messung von Reibung und Verschleiß, ein Atmometer (Verdunstungsmesser) und ein Pyrometer zur berührungslosen Temperaturmessung. Besonders berühmt wurde die Leidener Flasche, eine historische Bauform des elektrischen Kondensators, die er mit Petrus Cunaeus entwickelte. Diese ist auch als Kleistsche Flasche bekannt, da sie kurz zuvor von Ewald Georg von Kleist auch erfunden wurde.
