This was the first published in NZ, his home country, and relates 11 short yarns on different aspects of life at sea, and ashore, in sail and steam, many of them set on the NZ coast or on the trans-Tasman trade, while those on terra firma include "sporting" moments. Tales such as these are the folk-lore of the sea. 255 pages, Green hard covers with red spine titles VG with light wear spine extremities. Ink gift iinscription FFEP, text block otherwise excellent. Colour art DJ is VG with small section missing spine top, few short tears, few chips, not clipped. A scarce book.

Main bedankt sich bei dem Astronomen und Direktor der schwedischen Sternwarte Johan August Hugo Gyldén (1841 - 1896 in Stockholm). Robert Main (1808-1878) für die Übersendung eines Astronomiebuches und schildert kurz seine Erlebnisse bei einem Besuch der schwedischen Sternwarte. Astronomer and brother of Thomas John Main, was born at Upnor in Kent on 12 July 1808.
