Et. Inf., de Stirie, de Carintie." in Aquatinta gestochen. - Insgesamt sehr gut erhaltenes Blatt. Literatur: Ingo Nebehay/Robert Wagner - Bibliographie altösterreichischer Ansichtenwerke aus fünf Jahrhunderten, Graz 1983, Bd. 3. || || Dimensions: 264 x 409mm. - Very rare gouache by Ferdinand Runk, at the same time the preliminary drawing for the aquatint engraved by Johann Ziegler (1749-1802) from the series "Vues de différens Bourgs Villages et Villes de Autriche sup. Et. Inf., de Stirie, de Carintie." || || Ferdinand Runk was born in Freiburg im Breisgau in 1764. In 1785 he began his training at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, among others with Johann Christian Brand (1722-1795). After graduating, he was a popular painter of his time, with the richness of color in his gouache landscapes being particularly popular. Although Runk also painted in oils, gouache remained his preferred technique throughout his life. He received commissions from Archduke Johann of Austria (1782-1859), Johann I of Liechtenstein (1760-1836) and Prince Joseph II of Schwarzenberg (1769-1833), who also appointed him his court painter. Runk recorded the belongings of his clients in various series, including in Styria, Carinthia, Bohemia and Moravia, as well as important places that the family visited. During this period he also traveled to Holland, where he created a series of views dedicated to the Marquise Delabord, a French statesman and writer. In collaboration with Princess Pauline von Schwarzenberg (1774-1810), two albums in the form of painted travel diaries were created in 1804 and 1805. Despite his high level of fame, his works were rarely exhibited, for example in 1822 and 1824 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Ferdinand Runk died in 1834 and was subsequently buried in Neuwaldegg. The present gouache was engraved in aquatint by Johann Andreas Ziegler for the series "Vues de différens Bourgs Villages et Villes de Autriche sup. Et. Inf., de Stirie, de Carintie". The series is one of the most beautiful series of views of the Austrian provinces and contains a total of 181 sheets. It was published in Vienna around 1790 by Franz Xaver Stöckl. || Drawings by Ferdinand Runk are very rarely on the market. The present work dates from his early creative phase, in which the gouaches are mostly kept in shades of blue. Later works are mostly permeated by shades of green. -- -- With faint, old creases in the left half of the sheet and here and there with slight superficial rubbing. - Overall in very good condition.
