The rear hinge appears to have been reinforced with japanese tissue.~~Krick opines that this is "[A] Texas classic of considerable scarcity. It is considered the best source on the Chichuahua Trail . There is some material on the Civil War and Reconstruction."~~ (Krick 441). Good binding.

Text block has a gilt top stain, but paint is chipping. This is a highly-acclaimed memoir by German-born frontiersman August Santleben, a man who is remembered for founding the first stagecoach line between Texas and Mexico. Howes S-104.
