Sir Albert Abdullah David Sassoon, 1st Baronet, KCB, CSI, (July 25, 1818-October 24, 1896), a British Indian philanthropist and merchant, was born a Jew in Baghdad, a member of a family that had lived there since the beginning of the 16th century, having been expelled from Spain in the 1490s. He was named Abdullah at birth, but changed his name to Albert later in life.

A fine original colour lithograph from Vanity Fair, a magazine which was published from 1869-1914, featuring a large caricature portrait each week. These were drawn by various artists, the most famous of whom was Leslie Ward who used the 'nom de crayon' of "Spy". This portrait will come mounted/matted and ready to frame using archivist quality materials, mount size 18 x 12 inches, 47 x 31 cms. It will be presented in a cellophane wrapper with our label guaranteeing authenticity. We pack very well, between sheets of hardboard. This is an excellent opportunity to purchase a portrait of Sir Albert Adballah David Sassoon, CSI, with the caption "The Indian Rothschild". With accompanying biographical details. 1 lettre autographe signée 4 pp. In-8 29 juillet 1916 Encre noire sur double feuillet de papier vergé filigrané, à l'en-tête imprimé "General Headquarters, British Armies in France". Bon Lettre de Sir David Sassoon adressée à un ami. En français. "[.] Je profite de cette occasion pour vous dire des tas de sottises parce que vous n'êtes pas venu nous voir depuis un siècle. Qu'est ce que nous avons fait pour mériter ce froid. Nous espérons beaucoup que vous allez emmener le général en chef à déjeuner avec nous très bientôt [.]". Il transmet à son correspondant les salutations d'Alan Fletcher. Sir Philip Sassoon fut unefigure prestigieuse en Grande-Bretagne, au débutdu XXe siècle. Célibataire convoité, il était un hôte sensationnel et ses réceptions étaient recherchées de tous. Pendant la Première Guerre mondiale(de 1915 à 1918)Sassoon fut lesecrétaire particulier du maréchal Haig. Politicien, collectionneur d'artet mondainbritannique.
