Very light edgewear to the cloth extremities, contents entirely without blemish with bright, clean, and unmarked pages and tight, sound binding; very good+, to, near fine. Scarce in commerce. See Hjartar, p. 40/41. Not in Peel. Published by prominent Icelandic-Canadian printer, and publisher Ólafur S. Thorgeirsson (1895-1955). Thorgeirsson oversaw the publication of the seminal Icelandic periodical, 'Almanak' (see our listing No. 4064).

Christoph von Schmid studierte Theologie in Dillingen, wo er Freundschaft mit Johann Michael Sailer schloß, der ihn entscheidend beeinflußte, und empfing 1791 die Priesterweihe. Er war als Seelsorger in Nassenbeuren, Seeg, Thannhausen und Oberstadion tätig und wurde 1827 auf Betreiben Sailers von König Ludwig I. von Bayern zum Domkapitular in Augsburg ernannt" (DBE). Seine schriftstellerische Arbeit begann er mit einer Biblischen Geschichte für Kinder (1801 07), die etwa 200 Nachdrucke erfuhr; daneben schrieb er zahlreiche Kinder- und Jugenderzählungen, deren Stoffe meist der Legenden- und Ritterwelt entstammen, und das weit verbreitete Weihnachtslied Ihr Kinderlein, kommet " (ebd.). Papierbedingt etwas gebräunt und stellenweise leicht fleckig, sonst in gutem Zustand.
