Twelve detective stories featuring Secret Service Smith, first published in popular fiction magazines, by a veteran pulp writer who wrote the first two novels featuring "The Spider," a super hero modeled on Scott's own earlier creation, Secret Service Smith, a gentleman detective and crime solver. First edition. Octavo, pp. [1-12] 1-274 [275-276: blank], original blue cloth, front and spine stamped in gold. Collection of twelve mystery stories by the author who penned the first two Spider pulp novels. The Secret Service Smith character is thought by some to be the inspiration for Richard Wentworth/The Spider. While first appearing as a Secret Service agent in his later adventures he leaves the service and becomes a detective based in New York in the spirit of Sherlock Holmes. A near fine copy in a very good copy, with mild rubbing mainly to spine ends and corners, mild age darkening to spine panel. (11539).
