An account of abstract art from 1890, the year of van Gogh's death, to 1918 and Malevich's "White Square on a White Background," a period that saw the blossoming of new theories and a restlessness comparable to that of the Florentine Renaissance as Jean Clay puts it in his foreword. Richly illustrated with mostly color reproductions of photographs of paintings created during these 28 years. The historical overview is illustrated with b/w photographs of the material and personal icons relating to the subject matter. DJ rubbed and with wear along edges, some small chips and creasing, protected with Brodart. Book block lightly age-toned not affecting images. DJ in overall good-, binding and interior in good+ to very good condition.
