Soft cover. Etat : Very Good. 1st Edition. Publisher's blue string-tied wrappers, 16mo (6 x 4 1/2 inches), serial pagination 393 - 418 + [1] + Table of Contents for the Bibelot 1906 year + 6 leaves of ads (last two are unopened). This number featuring three selections by Fiona MACLEOD, the female pseudonym of William SHARP (1855-1905). Sharp, in an 1892 Pagan Review, "argued against discriminating between men and women, in language suggestive of the fraying of the boundaries of sex themselves. Sharp himself was shortly to attempt to prove the presence of a woman within" by the development of the MACLEOD persona (see Oxford Dictionary of National Biography entry by Murray G. H. PITTOCK, s.v. SHARP). Consequently, Sharp can perhaps be regarded as an early literary proponent of then-rudimentary gender fluid theory. Selections of her/his work in this number of The Bibelot are: (1) THE DISTANT COUNTRY; (2) THE MEMORY OF BEAUTY; and (3) THE WIND, THE SHADOW, AND THE SOUL. Upper wrapper with a little toning and lightly smudged at "Bibelot" red ink title. About Very Good notwithstanding. Mosher enthusiasts will be aware that surviving Bibelot single issues are fragile affairs, so we have stowed this copy safely now in a clear protective display sleeve with white card stock backing board. See BISHOP, p. 98, Number 29.

Original Cloth. Etat : Very Good. Reprint. First printing of the Heinemann pocket edition of the uniform edition first published in 1910. This is a revised version of The Dominion of Dreams which was originally published by Constable in 1899. The stories grouped together under the title Under the Dark Star were largely originally published separately in Spiritual Tales originally published by Patrick Geddes in 1897 and others gathered from elsewhere. There is a bibliographic note at the end of the book which explains this more fully. The front panel of the boards have a little discolouration in places and the boards have light rubbing to the corners. Small ownership note in pen to the front free endpaper and there is slight browning to the pages which are otherwise clean and unmarked. No jacket.
