Coloured frontispiece and eight full-page black and white illustrations and numerous text illustrations all executed by Roderick Shaw. Red coloured boards with black writing on spine. Bottom edge of the book is rubbed and the two lower corners of the book have underlying board visible. The top corners are slightly bumped. The head and the heel of the spine are soft and bumped, and there has been insect activity along the inside margin of the front cover. Underlying board is visible from this damage. Top paper edge is dusty and slightly foxed. Foxing has started on first few pages and last few pages of book. Illustrated dustwrapper, again by Roderick Shaw, showing the frontispiece illustration, with red background and black writing on front panel and gilt on the spine. The dustwrapper is in very ordinarily condition. Both the front and back fold overs have become detached from the rest of the dustwrapper and has been repaired with tape (still in situ). The corners of the dustwrapper are chipped. There is chipping to the top and bottom of the spine, and the top 0.25" of the spine is missing. There has been small tears to the top and bottom edges of the dustwrapper. Dustwrapper now protected in library sleeving. A story-poem based on a tale by Gottfried Keller. A wonderful addition to any reference collection for anyone wanting to learn a little about the people who were pioneers in early Australian bookselling. (No 198 of a limited edition of 600 copies.).
