Provenance; from the library of the Birmingham Medical Institute with its bookplate; includes a presentation bookplate from the Birmingham Medical Institute, being presented by Dr. J. G. Billington. Signed by Author. gilt titles spine; blind-stamped, single-line outer border to front & rear covers; illustrated by b/w. photo's. of buildings & notable persons; signed on the front end-paper with the inscription: "To Humphrey Arthure who, as its third Hon. Vce., did so much for the College Wm. Fletcher Shaw 1954"; also, loosely inserted, a handwritten letter to Humphrey Arthure congratulating him on his appointment to Vice President in 1964 & discussing at length the position of Obstetrics & Gynaecology in the Medical Schools. The signature on this letter is hard to read but may be: 'Milne' so possibly Shelagh E. Milne, M.B., B.Ch.; another loose insert is a short note from the author of this book on headed notepaper & reading: "My Dear Arthure, Delighted to do this. Kindest remembrances to you & Mrs. Arthure. Yours very sincerely, Wm. Fletcher Shaw".; & a final handwritten insert lists the officers of the College from the date of the books publication (1954) up to 1987; price-intact but rather fragile D/J. has edge-wear & is browned with age; including appendices & index - 192 pages.
