Half-length image in profile with wig and gown. Good clean condition, good margins as it has never been framed. With the page of biographical details by Jehu Jnr all original also. Very Good. Ready for framing. Genuine 1871. * Was the original civil servant/advisor who drafted the policies for the settlement of Australia, the Poor Law of 1834 and The civil service organisation in India. He attends Her Majesty on all Commons Bills. His presence in Parliament is a reminder to member that they are living under a system which may seem to the vain to be laughable, is from age alone and its antiquity a respected institution and should remain so.

A fine original colour lithograph from Vanity Fair, a magazine which was published from 1869-1914, featuring a large caricature portrait each week. These were drawn by various artists, the most famous of whom was Leslie Ward who used the 'nom de crayon' of "Spy". This portrait will come mounted/matted and ready to frame using archivist quality materials, mount size 18 x 12 inches, 47 x 31 cms. It will be presented in a cellophane wrapper with our label guaranteeing authenticity. We pack very well, between sheets of hardboard. This is an excellent opportunity to purchase a portrait of Sir John Shaw-Lefevre, KCB, with the caption ''La Reyne le veult". Accompanied by a one page biographical sheet. Sir John George Shaw-Lefevre KCB (24 January 1797-20 August 1879), was a British barrister, Whig politician and civil servant.

John Lefevre [Sir John George Shaw-Lefevre - under-secretary at the colonial office] (Lord Viscount Howick) Sir John George Shaw Lefevre (1797-1879), who was senior wrangler at Cambridge in 1818, had a long and distinguished career as a public official. He was under-secretary for the colonies, and had much to do with the introduction of the new poor law in 1834, and with the foundation of the colony of South Australia; then having served on several important commissions he was made clerk of the parliaments in 1855, and in the same year became one of the first civil service commissioners. He helped to found the university of London, of which he was vice-chancellor for twenty years, and also the Athenaeum Club.
