Manuscript title on smooth spine, manuscript ex-libris in a nice two-coloured calligraphy on the front cover (modern, but in ancient style). Woodcut ex-libris on the first paste-down. Nice copy. Willems n° 358.

Printer's mark of flying horse over cornucopia & hand from cloud holding caduceus to titlepage + same printer's mark slightly larger to verso of last leaf + floral, foliate & historiated head- & tail-piece & initials. Folio handsome 18th century gilt ruled and sprinkled calf with 6 raised bands, the compartments & bands gilt but without a title on the spine (small chip out of head of spine/edges sl.rubbed). All edges sprinkled with red dye [8]pp prelims + 320pp + [28]pp index, publisher's imprint and large Wechel printer's mark. Some marginal damp marks to top corner but not affecting the strength and crispness of the paper nor the text. Name Fletcher to top of titlepage. A very few notes or marks to margin. *History of Louis XI & Charles VIII by de Commynes, shortened history of memorable events by Froissart and a further work, by de Seissel. Scarce volume of Medieval French history OCLC locates only 6 copies. 1 volume. Hardcover.

Pergamentband der Zeit, Klein8° ( 12,5 x 8,5 cm ). Der Einband ist angestaubt und fleckig, stärker berieben, Ecken und Kanten sind bestoßen, Bindung ist gelockert, Schließenbänder fehlen. Innen ist das vordere unbedruckte Vorsatzblatt beschädigt, fleckig und wurmstichig, das Titelblatt ist gebräunt, etwas fleckig mit Randnotiz von sehr alter Hand aus dem Jahr 1630. Innen einige Seiten etwas fleckig, stock- oder fingerfleckig, wenige Seiten sind wasserrandig. Einige Seiten sind teils auch stärker angeknickt bzw. eselsohrig. Einige Seiten mit Unterstreichungen bzw. Anstrichen von sehr alter Hand. Hinteres Vorsatzblatt und Rückdeckel innen mit handschriftlichen Notizen von sehr alter Hand. Letztes Blatt und hintere Vorsatzblätter wurmstichig mit geringem Buchstabenverlust, hinteres Vorsatzblatt beschädigt. - sehr selten - ( Gewicht 400 Gramm )( Lagerort Kl. S.L. ( Genève ), Excudebat Conradus Badius, 1559., format in-12° ( 12 x 8,2 cm). [1] 458 lvs + 14 lvs (index) (complete) ; [2] 50 lvs + 6 lvs (index) (complete). Both titles with the same woodengraved vignet, this copy entirely ruled with double red ink lines. Bound in 18th c. full calf. Binding with severe traces of use: top end of spine missing (ca. 1 cm), outer joints partly broken (binding still solid), Traces of worming in lower cover,with some loss of leather. Notwithstanding these binding defects still a good copy with a fine interior, solid bookblock, no stains, finely ruled. Title page with two manuscript ex-libris (proabably conteporary, but illegible). First posthumous edition of Sleidanus' important work on the history of the Reformation. In this edition was added a 26th book. The first edition of this work was published in 1555; one year before his death. ( Genève ) , chez Jean Crespin, 1557 , in-8°, 134 pp + (6)nn pp (index) + (2)(blank), stitched, with a vellum cover, vellum damaged, large part of backcover missing , corners worn with small loss of paper, the usual small stains but still a good copy. First edition of the last work of Sleidanus in which he exposes his philosophy of history. Text in French. Rare. There exists two different editions with the 1557 imprint; a) with 165 pp (copy in the BN Paris) , b) our copy with 134 pp (identical with the copy in the Brigham Young UL).
