16. t'Antwerpen, By Hieroymus Verdussen den Jonghere, woonende op de oude Cooremert inde gulde Tes, 1685, small in-4°, 19.5x15 cm, 24 nn pp, 16 engravings mostly of triumphal arches erected to greet the pageant. (H. V. Bruggen inv;, G. Bouttats fecit), modern leather binding, raised spine, gilt lettering on frontcover. Most pages rather thumbed and soiled, not a crisp copy. The etchings ware made by Gasper Bouttats. The second part of the publication describes the pageant on the following Monday by the pupils of the Jesuit College. Rare publication on the pageant organised by the counter-reformative Catholic church in Antwerp to celebrate the fall of their city and its subjection to foreign powers. A subjection which has been a perennial feature of the political scene in the Southern Netherlands, now Flanders (incorporated in Belgium).
