First Edition. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. 6 1/2 x 4 1/4 ' on heavy stock card of the London Stereoscopic Company, boldly signed and inscribed in black ink on verso: 'From 'Nurse' Stirling, Lyceum Theatre. May 1882'. Slight fading to photograph proper (with possible attempt at restoration of part); small crease to lower right corner, with few small nicks to edges, uniformly browned card; else a fairly good example with a very desireable inscription. Stirling (1815-1895), English actress, nee Kehl; afterward Lady Gregory (not to be confused with the Irish author); notable for the roles of Peg Woffington and Lady Bountiful, but also in a few Shakespeare productions (as Cordelia in 'King Lear', principally); played the Nurse in 'Romeo and Juliet' at the Lyceum in 1882 and 1884 (though in semi-retirement from the stage from 1870 on); married to Edward Stirling (or Lambert) and to Sir Charles Hutton Gregory (the latter in 1894); also noted as a teacher of elocution at the Royal Academy of Music.1 Sepia-tone Photograph.
