Printed black and red on white paper on both sides, the upper illustrated on one half with a Lifeboat man, the other side with a post box, the reverse side with details of a competition whereby competitors send Sunlight or Lifebuoy Soap wrappers to the Lever brothers H.Q; and in return depending on the number of wrappers received ' .the best works of our standard authors . Free of Cost.' A charming and attractive item. The Lever Brothers Company was founded in 1885 by William Hesketh Lever and James Darcy Lever. It was the first company to sell soap in cartons, and by the end of 1887 it was making 450 tones of soap per week. In 1894 the Company introduced a new more affordable product to its range - Lifebuoy Soap.

Small oblong 8°, original pictorial coloured wraps., 36pp. of text & numerous coloured ills., 1 advert leave with coloured ills. depicting a range of detergents (Sunlight products), 1 folded leave with plain ills. depicting the origin of soaps, & 4 leaves, folding-out 4-ways (imp. folio, in-plano), bearing numerous ills. on 16pp. depicting the manufacture of soaps from raw material up till the finished product, with extensive captions, issued by the Sunlight Institute (Lever company). ADDED: M.NIJBORG & H.E. SONDORP, Taakboekje. Small 8°, original wraps., 38pp., tables, some illustrated adverts relating to the subject, questionnaires. An interesting & lavishly illustrated reader for last class dutch primary school, schools for further education & industrial schools, issued by the Sunlight Institute at Rotterdam, explaining & illustrating the history & manufacture of soaps & detergents for dutch juveniles (rather advanced however). Complete, with the loosely inserted 'bijlagen', and the so-called "Taakboekje" (lessons, with questionnaires). (very light wear to rims of wraps, in excellent condition however).
