Hardcover. Etat : Fair. 1st Edition. Still looks quite nice from the front but there is damage around the spine, with a bit at the top being loose (and a very small bit missing). Both hinges are damaged and there are 3 loose pages at the front (including the frontispiece). Owners details (Dated 1872) on the first end-paper and an inscription (in the same hand) on the title page. There is also a little damp-staining inside the front cover and a break in the binding in the middle of the book. Almost no foxing, and no markings in the text. All edges gilt (but the top edge darkened).

London: Sampson Low Son and Marston Very informative book on the authors travels to New Zealand and other provinces then home through Australia. 226 pages in overall bright clean condition just very occasional small light marks, all three outer edges of pages are gold, endpapers are a little dusty with previous owners name neatly written on front inner board. Book is not dated but has a schoolprize label pasted on inside front board dated 1873, One frontispiece illustration, no illustrations are listed so I am presuming this is complete, plus very informative text. Outer boards are a little rubbed and worn on edges and some small marks. A pleasing example of this collectable book SEE IMAGE. DETAILED IMAGES AVAILABLE ON REQUEST. Gold Decorated Boards. Good Plus/No Jacket. 7 x 4 ¾ Inches. Hardcover.

Green cloth boards with gilt lettering and decoration on spine and front board. Page dimensions: 168 x 112mm. All page edges gilt. The frontispiece illustration is of a tiger approaching a man armed with a rifle. This scene does not seem to be related to the contents of the book. [Reference: Bagnall 5540. For contents, see Bagnall 5539 - "Title a misnomer for of the 106 pages dealing with New Zealand only the first few refer to the author's arrival and give descriptive outline. Most of section describes visits to other parts of the country before her departure in 1865. [. . .] amusingly petty."].
