Etat : Very Good. New edition, complete in 2 volumes. HB, half leather. Marbled boards, green leather spines and corners, gilt titles to spine, with raised bands and marbled endpapers, teg. H: 26cm. With 37 beautiful engraved plates, which appear to be hand coloured; each is tissue guarded. The book was aimed at the amateur botanist wanting to identify mosses; it follows the arrangement of Schimper's 1876 Synopsis, unlike the first edition. Vol. 1: 130pp with 25 plates. Vol. 2: 170pp, with 12 plates. Cover edges heavily rubbed, leather corners have some large scuffs or tears to the surface, gilt is bright, some marks to the boards. Binding is tight. Pages and plates are clean and bright, with occasional light foxing spots and marks, and a few edge nicks. A Very Good set.

This work offers a guide to the amaeatur on British mosses, using a simplified language, whilst still offering minute detail about the structure, habits, and appearances of the mosses. With seventeen colour plates to Volume I. With twenty-one colour plates to Volume II. Written by F. E. Tripp. Eight pages of publisher's adverts to the rear of each volume. Bookplate to the recto to the front endpaper, 'Ex Libris G. E. Wyatt'. Collated, complete. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, with some light marks to the boards. A little bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities, resulting in a little loss. Front hinges of Volumes I and II are starting but firm. Bookplate to the recto to the front endpapers. Internally, binding is strained in places. Pages are bright and clean with only the very occasional spot. Good. book.
