Offered is a single-page carbon copy letter on Universal Pictures Corporation stationery (Pacific Coast Studios, Universal City, California) dated March 13, 1930 and addressed to "Messrs. Morris [sic] Fleckles and John D. Tippet, Universal City, California" which reads in very short part: "Gentleman: With reference to that certain lease executed at University City, California, March 13, 1930, it is hereby understood and agreed between yourselfs and the undersigned [---] that we agree to undertake at our own expense the following improvements [---] It is further understood and agreed [---] that without any extra rent on your part you are to have available for the use of your employees one certain building on the Universal premises now known as the 'bunk house,' which is used for sleeping quarters for employees of the restaurant [---] Yours very truly, UNIVERSAL PICTURES CORPORATION By [W. L. Stern]." The agreement contains the original - not carbon - signatures of Maurice Fleckles, John D. Tippett, and W. L. Stern in green fountain pen. Condition: two small hole punches to upper edge area; "Vault" written in pencil to upper edge; "Mailed by Mrs. Walsh 4/2" written in pencil to lower left corner. Maurice Fleckles (1871-1946) was an agent and publicist associated with Universal Pictures Corporation. Married to Anna Laemmle, sister of Carl Laemmle, he appeared briefly, along with several others, in the short 10-minute 1914 documentary entitled "The Great Universal Mystery" which promoted the silent-screen stars of Universal Pictures.
