Laid in is an introduction which tells of the year-by-year process of writing the book, his relationship to Doubleday, and how the illustrator, Reinord Von Whitt-Pritchette, was brought in and given advance manuscript copies to prepare the book design. A fine copy bound in brown leather lettered and decorated in gilt, all edges gilt.
Cloth. Etat : Fair+. No Jacket. Signed Type: Ex-Library Fair+. Inscribed, dated and signed by author on 2nd page thus "For Dr. Al- Happy birthday from David and me, Leon Uris". Bds. have been reinforced with black tape on spine and corners, a few usual library markings, no card holder. Forward slant to spine, Pages have consistent, very light age-toning, dampstain on back end page upper corner, first two pages have some waving on top edge. Pages have deckled edges, are clean, unmarked, tight binding, a couple of brittle/tender spots, intact and good, opens wide on a few pages. 626 pp. No missing pages, no tears. Signed.
