Exemplar des zweiten Drucks des Katalogs sämtlicher griechischer Zitate und Anspielung im Gesamtwerk Vergils durch den italienischen Humanisten, Philologen und Antiquar Fulvio Orsini (1529-1600), der - selbst ein großer Sammler - vor allem als Bibliothekar und Kurator der Sammlungen der Farnese bekannt wurde. Voet: The Plantin Press, 2349; Schweiger unbekannt geblieben; Short-Title Catalogue of Dutch Books 1470-1600 in the British Museum, p. 207; Adams U 76; Bauer: Bibliotheca librorum rariorum universalis IV, 282: Liber rarus (zur Erstausgabe von 1567). Brunet und Graesse ziehen die Neubearbeitung Leeuwarden 1747 vor. Der Rücken und die marmorierten Vorsatzpapiere wurden wohl im 19. Jahrhundert unter Verwendung der älteren Deckel erneuert, wobei der Rücken auf den Buchblock aufgeklebt und das Vordergelenk mit Leder unterfüttert wurde. Das Titelblatt wurde (ohne Textverlust) am Rand beschnitten und das darauffolgende Blatt am Rand mit Papier überklebt und verstärkt. Das Kollophon des Druckers am Textende ist auf 1567 datiert. Trotz der Reparaturen ordentliches, nur gering fleckiges und vollständiges Exemplar.

Der spanische Rechtsgelehrte und spätere Erzbischof von Tarragona Antonio Agustín (1517-1586) gehörte als hervorragender Kenner des kanonischen wie des antiken römischen Rechts zu den Mitbegründern der historischen Rechtswissenschaft im 16. Jahrhundert. Sein De legibus ist ein Nachschlagewerk zum Römischen Recht und liegt hier in einer von dem italienischen Humanisten Fulvio Orsini (1529-1600) kommentierten Ausgabe vor. Adams A 2232. Das Titelblatt mit altem handschriftlichrem Besitzvermerk, sonst schönes, gut erhaltenes Exemplar mit nur leichten Gebrauchsspuren.

Le incisioni sono varie e raffigurano statue, monete, busti, iscrizioni: per ognuna di esse viene indicata la collezione di appartenenza mentre i ritratti di personaggi greci e romani, divisi in categorie, sono identificati col sussidio di un'ampia varietà di materiali archeologici conservati in collezioni private e nella personale raccolta di Orsini. Le calcografie provengono dalla bottega di Lafréry mentre le xilografie dalla bottega di Pietro Deuchino.

Er war u. a. Bibliothekar von Kardinal Alessandro Farnese. Seine bedeutende Sammlung von Büchern und Handschriften ging nach seinem Tod in die Vatikanische Bibliothek über.- Titel mit hs. Complete, engraved title of the second part bound before the title of the first part. Bound in full contemporary red morocco in the style of '' Du Seuil ''. All edges gilt, marbled endpapers. (one corner slightly bumped). Very nice copy notwithstanding a small light brown stain on the engraved title.
