Hardcover. Etat : Fine. No Jacket. Limited Edition. [Colophon]: "Lilac Wind poems by W. R. Johnson [printed] on a pulp painting made by Claire Van Vliet with Kathryn Clark at Twinrocker Handmade Paper Mill in Brookston, Indiana & printed and bound in 1983 at The Janus Press in Newark, Vermont. Of one hundred and fifty copies this is 14 [signed] Claire Van Vliet". Size of the specially constructed, drop-back folding case: 8 5/8 in. x 13 in. x 1 1/8 in. (thick); this case is covered with a rough-textured deep lilac colored cloth, with a finer textured, sky-blue cloth on the outer and inner edges, the interior of the case is lined with a pale lilac-gray, satin-type cloth, a purple-brown surfaced leather title label, vertically mounted on the spine of the case, lettered in matt finish silver: LILAC WIND; this case contains the folding (folded: approximately: 7 3/4 in. x 12 in., but unfolds to over 60 in.) panorama of delicately colored, lilac, gray & white, and other added shades to suggest cloud forms against the blue-gray surface of the folded paper, which is cut along the top with semi-circular forms, handmade paper edges giving a feathered appearance to some of the edges. Paper along one of the smaller ends shows a natural, crease-like line in the paper. A fine copy. The scan shows a portion of the spine and front cover of the case. The titles of the printed poems are: "Death of Li Shang-yin"; "Her Contemplation"; "January Hours". The title: Lilac Wind is derived from the third line of the poem: "Death of Li Shang-yin". A truly subtle and effective production. Scarce. The prospectus is laid in.
