FIRST EDITION in red cloth with black titling, illustrated dust jacket, illustrated with photos on high quality paper (listed), 189pp. Acceptable - only due to wet spot on cover (looks like it was laid on top of a wet rag; contents okay but pages toned. Dust Jacket is Good with some chipping and soiling. History of the methods of transportation used as the West developed. Written by Louis Lamour's sister, a noted historian on the Old West. Includes a chapter on "Steamboating on the Missouri" and includes a photo of Fort Abraham Lincoln as it appeared when General Custer ran the post.

Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. No Jacket. 2nd Edition. An informal study of Dakota territorial days by Edna LaMoore Waldo. The author was born and raised in North Dakota. She wrote or edited seven books on North Dakota history and wrote for a newspaper in Bismarck in the 1930's. She also wrote a weekly column for the Milwaukee Journal. From 1935 to 1937, she hosted a radio talk show at KFYR in Bismarck. She and her husband moved to California in 1948 and in 1949 started to work at the Stanford Research Institute in Palo Alto, where she stayed until her retirement. Foxing along the text block. Pages have waving, but no signs of water damage or damp staining. No DJ. Yellow boards with dark brown striping. Some discoloration to boards. Has prior owners' inscription (sticker) on endpaper.

This is the preferred edition with the title shortened. In this edition, the author used unpublished manuscripts to supplement her reliance on newspaper accounts in the first edition. An entire chapter (chapter IV) on Custer. Somewhat uncommon due to the limited numbers printed and more so being signed. A Luther High Spot and important Custeriana collectible. Signed by Author(s).
