Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. 2nd Edition. viii, 140, (3) pages. Illustrated with lithographic frontispiece and 38 plates. 185x110mm. Paper backed linen covered boards. Second edition greatly enlarged. The lithographic illustrations are by Thomas Kelly. Robert Walsh (1772-1852), clergyman, antiquarian, doctor and writer was born in Waterford. Educated at Trinity College, Dublin, where he was a contemporary of Thomas Moore and Robert Emmet. Ordained a clergyman, he held embassy chaplaincies at St. Petersburg, Constantinople and Rio de Janeiro. He later acquired a medical degree and practiced for some time as a physician. Retuning to Ireland he obtained a living at Kilbride, Co. Wicklow and Finglas in Dublin. The binding, which shows signs of rubbing at edges, has been tastefully re-backed. Some foxing to text, otherwise a very good copy without any damage, library stamps, inscriptions or other markings.
