hardcover. Etat : Very Good+. Hardcover, Signed, Stated Second Printing 1979, Self Published, 195 pages. Near Fine, No Dust Jacket-as issued. Just a hint of shelf/edge wear to green cloth boards with gilt titles and gilt illustration of the schoolhouse on cover. Author?s signature on half title page. Prior owner?s small oval bookplate on ffep. Otherwise all pages are clean, crisp and tight. In September 1929, Henry Ford?s Edison Institute school system began at Scotch Settlement School in world-renowned Greenfield Village, with 32 grade school children. Students were taught using both traditional and progressive methods. This is the first hand account of the author?s experiences teaching at the tuition-free school. She covers the school?s history from early 1930?s to her retirement in 1969. A fascinating insider?s view of a unique educational environment. Included are many professionally produced photos of the grounds, the school and many of its attendees enjoying various activities and events through the years. The 4-page listing of answers to frequently asked questions is of particular interest. A lovingly cared for volume and a worth-while read. LOC SSS-05. Signed.
