Illustrated throughout with twenty pen-and-wash drawings both in-text and full-pages images, two of which are in colour. An architectural fantasy around a great Palladian mansion and the extravagances and conceits of its lay-out and garden. Written by Simon Harcourt-Smith, an English author and producer. Illustrated by Reginald John "Rex" Whistler, a British artist who painted murals and society portraits. In the original red cloth binding. Externally, very smart with minor shelf wear to the extremities. Original unclipped dust wrapper is sound with light shelf wear and the odd small mark to the panels. Sunning to the spine. A 2" closed tear to the head of the front panel has been sympathetically repaired with tape to the internal side, with a 3" closed tear to the tail of the panel. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout with a contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper dated 1949. Very Good Indeed. book.
