Mr. Hyde was a former Governor of Missouri and secretary of Agriculture. Very nice copy.

This copy has a chip at the edge of the spine (smaller than a dime) where the blue cloth is torn and backing paper is visible. Some bumps to board edges and shelf wear from age. Binding good and tight. Title page dated 1937. Copyright page dated 1937, with an 'A' on the copyright page. 666 pages. Signed and inscribed on the front endpaper, 'To J.M. Evans with the kind regards of Herbert Hoover.' By the time this book was published (1937), Hoover had been out of office for 4 years and the nation was in the grip of the Depression; Hoover had hoped to be nominated for another run at the presidency in 1936, but did not get it. Signature and inscription are in blue/black ink on free endpaper, which itself is toned from age, with some darkening at the inner edge. Measures 6.5 x 9.5 inches. Signed by President Herbert Hoover to C.O. Manspeaker. The two authors of this work served in the cabinet of President Herbert Hoover. They did not set out to write a biography of the former president, rather to lay out the "principles and policies both in philosophy of government and in action" of the Hoover Administration. Ray Lyman Wilbur served as the Secretary of the Interior and became the President of Stanford University. Arthur Mastick Hyde was the Governor of Missouri and became Hoover's Secretary of Agriculture.
