Second, it serves as an introduction to rock formations and to occurrences of oil, uranium, and ground water for the layman. Third it provides a handy 'backyard' guide to rock units that extend into the subsurface of the Denver Basin. Toward this end, full technical articles are included in the guidebook.

Endpapers are toned around edges; front one has light rubber stamping. Text and additional material is clean, tight bright and unmarked. Back pocket is torn along one seam. Grey, textured vinyl boards with raised yellow titles and graphics is clean with minimal signs of wear and no structural damage.
