(1836) vii, consisting of 3 parts (also likely early 20th century rebind): Part 1 - The History And Antiquities Of The Vicar's Close, Wells, Somersetshire (27 ppgs.), Part 2 - The History And Antiquities Of The Manor House And Church At Great Chalfield, Wiltshire (1837) (26 ppgs.), Part 3 - The History And Antiquities Of The Manor House, At South Wraxhall, and The Church Of Saint Peter, At Biddlestone, Wiltshire. Also present at the end of this volume is Appendix, No. I - Pedigree Of Long, Of South Wraxall and Draycot, &c. County Wilts, etc.- (this appendix originally folded out and then up and is now in two sections). This volume shows very light wear at the spine ends and corners. Taken on the whole, vol.1 is VG-, vol.2 is Good, vol.3 is VG. Additionally, vol. 2 has a stamp on the inner front cover identifying it as the property of "Abram Garfield, Architect", son of President Garfield and a prominent Cleveland architect for many years. Vol. 1 also has a stamp on the inner front cover identifying it as the property of "Garfield, Harris, Robinson & Schafer, Arch.", a later notable Cleveland architectural firm, of which Abram Garfield was a partner. This set of books was the preeminent reference for gothic architecture well into the twentieth century and is still reprinted to this day on CD. A rare and handsome set with incredible plates. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
