Taschenbuch. Etat : Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - This is a collection of stories of a well-known Crimean author. He wrotes with humour and amasing fantasy. His characters live in the culture of the world, they travel from one age to another, from one myth to another one. Ancient China, ancient world, the past and the present times are glimpsed fleetingly, like in a crazy caleidoscope, and sometimes it happens within the limits of the same story. Alexander Granovsky narrates about mental travels, about soul wanderings. The author can write in a manner in which it is just interesting to read his stories, it is interesting to know what is going to happen next, what adventures the author prepared for his heroes, to get to know all turns of the plots, and the next story end. The distinctive characteristics of the best stories of the book are inner intensity, unpredictable turns and immersion in the world culture context.

First editions, 1 of 1500 copies each; two, stand-alone volumes, 1957 and 1964; 8 1/4 x 5 1/2 and 8 1/2 x 5 1/2; pp. 143 and 144; pictorial wraps, designed by Evhen Blakytnyi and Mykhailo Mykhalevich respectively; light wear and age-toning to edges and corners; in very good condition.Professor Alexander A. Granovsky (1887 - 1976), as he was known in the US, was a Ukrainian-American scientist, publicist, author, and full member of the Shevchenko Scientific Society. He was also a pioneer entomologist, author of more than 200 scientific papers, and professor at the University of Minnesota. Orphaned at a very young age and persecuted by the tsarist authorities, he left Ukraine - first to Europe, then eventually settling in the US, where he worked in a gold mine and served in the US Army, while getting advanced degrees at several universities. Beginning to write poetry while still in school, he had his poems published at various journals, before authoring and releasing a series of 7 stand-alone volumes, part of which were the two current ones.

Edition originale
First separate edition, first printing, of this appeal to liberate Ukraine from Soviet domination, describing the history of the Ukrainian independence movement and the beneficial role of a future independent Ukraine in world affairs. This is one of several known copies with the author's bookplate. The Ukrainian-born Alexander Granovsky (1887-1976) studied at the Kyiv Commercial Institute before emigrating to the United States in 1913. He taught zoology at the Universities of Wisconsin and Minnesota from 1922 to 1956. From 1935 to 1963 he was president of the Organization for the Rebirth of Ukraine. He was also member of the senate of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists and a founding member of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America. His article was first published in World Affairs, and here reprinted separately by the journal's publisher, the American Peace Society. It is an important document reflecting the views of the nationalist movement among the Ukrainian diaspora, published in the aftermath of the Holodomor, and the year prior to the Nazi conquest of Ukraine, during which nationalist feeling fed into both collaboration and opposition to the occupying forces. Octavo. Original wrappers printed in black. Very light handling creasing and toning. A very good copy.
