Colour covers (advert at back) G+ with few marks, corners lightly worn, blue fabric spine VG+ with black titles, both covers slightly loose, light foxing first text page and index, also page edges, text block otherwise VG. Small orange sticker on back cover.

A beautiful example of the Victorian printers craftsmanship. This guide to Edinburgh and its environs features 25 lovely chromo colour art views in and around the city, including the frontis of the Forth Bridge. These are on 13 pages of heavy art paper at the front, followed by 47 text pages and one page with two maps showing the city and the surrounding area. The covers are blue, the front with delicate impressed decoration, gilt titles front and spine. The spine has light surface wear, also to hinges and corners, otherwise VG. Gilt page edges, decorated e/papers with pencil name, address top corner front pastedown, faint impression of erased pencil insc top FFEP. Text block VG with few light fingermarks, spot verso last colour plate, first text page, five small brown tone intext illustrations. A nice copy of a scarce book.

With six full page coloured plates, each having moving parts, all are in very good working order. Tabs are thumbed and plates have foxing from the text pages which are printed on poor quality paper. Text pages browned. Publishers pictorial glazed boards are slightly bumped and creased. A few small chips and rubbing around edges. Bottom corner of front cover is creased which has slightly cracked the front endpaper. Rear board is covered with publishers grey paper and is rubbed and darkened. Some darkening to front cover. Red cloth spine slightly rubbed and darkened. Still not a bad copy and a scarce movable book. Unusual to find all the working parts complete and in working order. Book.

Includes four alphabets in the one volume, each volume of which has separate alphabets. Colour printing by Kronheim. Some page edges have been slightly torn and have been repaired on the verso, the tears do not go into the illustration. One page has a tear ( no loss). Foxed throughout, in some places heavy. The book has been recased at some point, it retains the original endpapers. Endpapers foxed. Publishers full brown gilt decorated cloth with three letters (ABC) all of which are produced with onlayed blue paper. The spine is preserved. The edges are rubbed and the cloth is slightly dusty and marked. Generally in very good condition, the re-backing is of professional quality. These alphabets were presumably produced separately originally, this is probably the first thus. Scarce and very attractive alphabets. Book.
