Hardcover. Etat : Near Fine. No Jacket. First Edition. FIRST EDITION. OXFORD : 2001. Hardback. Green cloth; gilt lettered spine. Cream end-papers. A bright, tight and clean copy. Neat owner name; nointernal markings. NEAR FINE. (xxix), 788 pages. Includes bibliographical references and indexes. SUMMARY: There is a rich vein of writing within Anglican tradition that has helped to form the theology and spirituality of the contemporary church. For many readers, much of this material remains unfamiliar and is often difficult to access. Love's Redeeming Work draws together the works of major writers from the sixteenth century to the present day who have contributed to this development. Each selected writer is introduced with a brief biography, which gives background information about the author, and highlights the relationships that existed with others from the same period. This will enable the reader to set the writings in their proper context, enhancing understanding of the material. The selections then follow. In some instances these may be familiar, but other examples will introduce fresh ideas for every reader. Each writer's selection is concluded with a list of source texts, which can encourage readers to explore in more depth those areas which intrigue and excite them. Love's Redeeming Work traces a path that has enabled Anglicanism in particular, and the wider church as well, to develop an ever-deepening awareness of the need for a spiritual depth in the Christian life informed by a better knowledge of tradition. In exploring this material, it is the compilers' hope that readers will find new riches that will encourage and sustain their own quest for holiness. Lg.8vo. **Heavy tome; extra postage needed. Will be well-packed for posting/shipping**. [ Rosley Books for Antiquarian books, CHS, Cumberland, Everyman, GKC, Inklings, Keswick, Literature, MacDonald, Rarities, Theology and History. ].

I do not mean that she must be uninterested in the social, political, and moral sphere of the Law, but that she must be disinterested. I regard it as a melancholy comment upon society, that the ordinary writer in the press is no longer capable of distinguishing these two words.' (D. L. Sayers, p. 73) -- `The task of the Church is to christianize the State and society. It is not to be accomplished by conferences and manifestoes, but by the patient toil of various minds in the humble and submissive hope of the direction of the Holy Ghost.' (T. S. Eliot, 212 f.).

2pp, 8vo. In fair condition, lightly aged and worn, with slight spotting and single punch hole centred above letterhead. Folded twice. The letter is addressed to 'My dear Vice-Chancellor' without further elaboration, but the item comes from the Ross papers. Temple explains that it has been difficult to foresee how this summer could be arranged: the planning of domestic life in two houses under present conditions of staffing is very complicated! His wife will not be joining him in the visit, as she feels obliged to spend that week-end at Canterbury . He finds the arrangements the Vice-Chancellor has made for him most delightful , and hopes he will be able to stay and dine with you in College on the Sumday night , but it is possible that I may have to return to London in order to give a broadcast talk to America that night at about 10 o clock . He awaits a definite answer on the matter, but as it is a question of dining in Hall I hope no great inconvenience will be caused by leaving it open . Signature and postscript in Temple s autograph: William Cantuar: / I suppose you will be wearing evening dress on the Sunday - ? .
