Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good. Edmund Dulac (illustrateur). First U.S. edition. The first of two fantasy novels - the other being 1929's "The Love of the Foolish Angel" - illustrated by Helen Beauclerk's long-time domestic partner, Edmund Dulac. Here, the work is "Adorned with nine Cuts and a Portrait of the Author". There are also chapter headings and tailpiece decorations throughout. Published, same year, in the U.K. by Collins. This is almost a really nice copy - if not for the slight damp damage. The lower corner of the rear board is discolored by damp which also affects the corners of the rear endpapers and about half a dozen pages. The defect is slight and there is no mustiness, so the contact with damp must have happened a long while ago! Otherwise, the copy is tight and clean apart from two bookseller labels to front pastedown. Dust jacket is browned on edges and spine panel, and shows the staining from damp damage to the rear panel, but is complete and sound but for one very small chip to top gutter.
