Harper & Brothers, 1864; early printing (1863 given as copyright date, 1864 on title page); vii, [viii], [9]-563pp. / vii, [viii], [9]-587, [12 ads]pp., many engraved illustrations including a few full page plates. Bookplates on front paste-down of each volume indicated this set was a gift to the St. Olaf College library from Lutheran minister, educator and scholar Olaf Morgan Norlie; Norlie's personal ink stamps are on front end page of each volume as well. Ex-library set with typical markings to spine, end pages and fly-leafs. Bindings remain sturdy and intact, hinges sounds; occasional pencil markings in text/margins of both volumes. Vol. 1 worn around spine ends, small portion of cloth chipped off both ends, gilt titling dulled but otherwise clearly legible; moderate amount wear to edges of Vol. 1 boards, corners gently bumped and split. Vol. 2 cloth back strip has completely detached; else moderate amount wear to edges of Vol. 2 boards, corners gently bumped and split.
