Livre
Hardcover. Etat : Good+. 1st hus. lxxxv+facs.1540 t.p.+198+original red decorated printed gray card covers bound in; new front endpaper and rear pastedown have innocuous small (15 mm) round stamp of the Birmingham Assay Office Library, which undetook the library binding, gutter opening after orig. half-title, 10 text figs, gutter before final leaf is 'stretched' with some tearing due to binding awkwardness in relation to bound in covers - but not a major problem; green cloth covers clean and unworn but fading strip across top front, leather spine good with gilt lettering and dates, side strips show it was originally green but spine itself now dark brown. All in Italian of course. This was intended to be the first full definitive modern edition on Biringuccio's landmark text for history of chemistory and metallurgy, and its introduction is praised by Smith and Gnudi in their 1943 English translation, but they confirm that only this Volume I was ever issued.
